Welcome to Duck Springs Elementary for the school year 2017/2018.I will be teaching fourth grade as self-contained this year, I am looking forward to the coming year and hope we can work together to make this a valuable learning tool in the basic foundation for the remaining of your child's school career.
Within the science perimeters we will be doing projects justified by the core curriculum standards for fourth grade. Much of the work will be done in class, but some will need
parental help after school. I will try to keep this part to a minimum. However, working together should allow parents the time to discover how their child deals with curriculum, scientific processes, design features, and it invites you to join me in encouraging consistent learning. The math curriculum requires remedial work be done as homework, however when this happens,  I will allow time at the end of the class period to be set aside for the express purpose of beginning assignments to assist the students in areas that need more direction. The multiplication facts are of extreme importance from this level on, so please encourage your student to learn these facts. It makes math much more enjoyable. Most of the reading is done during class time, however I want to encourage the students to read chapter books from the Library in a consistent manner. Testing on vocabulary will come at the end of the lesson week. There could be language homework, if your student hasn't finished during the period of time set aside for that purpose.  Alabama History is a subject I teach with relish. I enjoy sharing the things I have learned from various excursions throughout the state. I am looking forward to working with both you and your child. Please feel welcome in our classroom, eat with your child in our lunchroom, or visit our special events. We eat at 11:30. Volunteering for room parents is a way to become part of our school experience. Whatever time you can spare makes a huge difference to your child.
